Advanced Teen Improv Troupe

DCP’s new Advanced Teen Improv Performance Troupe is geared for teens that have completed DCP's Beginning Improv course or have similar experience. Teens should be dedicated, disciplined, and passionate about comedy and acting! Taught by our local instructor who trained at The Second City, the world’s premier improvisation troupe, this class will explore each aspect of short-form games in depth, focusing on creating stellar shows for the public, while also learning advanced techniques of improvisation. Some of the more advanced methods emphasized will be character building, teamwork, communication, emotional honesty and vulnerability while acting on stage, and self-esteem.

This semester long course helps students learn what it takes to create truthful, comedic scenes on the spot, all while making friends and laughing. We’ll use special exercises and games designed to work on teamwork, accepting and celebrating mistakes, thinking faster, enhancing listening skills, reacting honestly, playing, and having fun! During the semester the students will have several opportunities to perform and practice their techniques including working with one of Charlotte's celebrated improv groups, The Chuckleheads. We’ll be picking up from the basics. Previous improv experience necessary.
