Back by popular demand: “The Spitfire Grill” returns to the McGlohon stage where it won North Carolina’s Best Production at AACTFest 2006.

A feisty parolee follows her dreams, based on a page from an old travel book, to a small town in Wisconsin and finds a place for herself working at Hannah's Spitfire Grill. It is for sale but there are no takers for the only eatery in the depressed town, so newcomer Percy suggests to Hannah that she raffle it off. Entry fees are one hundred dollars and the best essay on why you want the grill wins. Soon, mail is arriving by the wheelbarrow full and things are definitely cookin' at the Spitfire Grill.

"An abundance of warmth, spirit and goodwill! ... Some of the most engaging and instantly infectious melodies I've heard in an original musical in some time." USA Today.

Based on Louisa May Alcott’s classic 1869 semi-autobiographical novel, this soaring musical focuses on the four March sisters – feisty, tomboyish, aspiring author Jo; romantic Meg; pretentious Amy; and kind-hearted Beth – and their beloved Marmee, at home in Concord, Massachusetts while the family patriarch is away serving as a Union Army chaplain during the Civil War. Interspersed with the vignettes in which their lives unfold are several recreations of the melodramatic short stories Jo writes in her attic studio.

Set in 1934, this fast-paced comedy revolves around renowned tenor Tito Morelli, known to his fans as “Il Stupendo,” who is scheduled to sing the lead in Othello, produced as a gala fundraiser for the Cleveland Opera Company. Unfortunately, even before the star leaves his hotel room, everything begins to unravel. Chaos ensues when a “Dear John” letter left by his wife, who has mistaken an autograph-seeker hidden in his closet for a secret lover, is misinterpreted as a suicide note. The distraught Morelli accidentally is given a double dose of tranquilizers to calm him and he passes out. Saunders, the company’s General Manager, is determined the show must go on, so he enlists the aid of his assistant Max to impersonate the opera star. Max is succeeding admirably…until Morelli awakens and heads for the stage. What follows is a chain reaction of confusion, plot twists, double entendres, innuendoes and constant entrances and exits through many doors.
