Education and Outreach

"Theatre is like a gym for empathy. It's where we can go to build up the muscles of compassion, to practice listening and understanding and engaging with people that are not like ourselves."
--Bill English, SF Playhouse

Part of DCP’s mission is to encourage community participation in live theatre that engages, entertains, enriches and educates. We actively look for ways to bring the theatrical experience into our community. Some examples of our community outreach are listed below.

Youth Ensembles final productions are performed FREE of charge for the community. Dates are January and May. Announcements are made via email, social media and on our website.

Senior Theatre is a readers theatre program that partners DCP with The Pines. This 4 week process works with Pines residents who are interested in participating in a reader's theatre production. The program yields an entertaining show that is open to The Pines residents.

Shakespeare on the Green is a partnership between The Town of Davidson, Davidson Community Players, Davidson College Friends of the Arts and Hough High School. Our mission is to produce Shakespeare in a manner that is open to all members of the Davidson and Lake Norman community.  All performance will be presented free of charge on the Village Green.

Field Trips
Participating and viewing live theatre improves academic performance, that is why DCP offers field trips to our Connie Company productions.
